OWNER Jim Long hopes to be reinvesting at the yearling sales later this year after his Roman Dancer became the 100th winner of a Racing Post Yearling Bonus at Windsor.
The John Gallagher-trained colt netted £15,000 through the Racing Post Yearling and Breeze-Up Bonuses when taking the 5f juvenile maiden, thereby paying back three-quarters of the £20,000 it took Long and his wife Brenda to purchase the colt at the Goffs Kempton Breeze-Up Sale in March. Lynn Lodge Stud retained the son of Antonius Pius for £16,000 at the DBS St Leger Sale.
"John and I looked at several maidens for him but decided to target the Windsor maiden as it was a bonus race and we like the course," said Long, who has owned horses under the name of C. R. Marks (Banbury) since 1976.
"The bonus is a wonderful idea and since Roman Dancer was also eligible for the breeze-up bonus, we won another £5,000 and get another £5,000 if he wins again. It has been a massive help for us as it has paid for a good percentage of the horse."
"Windsor was his first start back and beingpresented with a novelty cheque was a lovely touch - I'm going to frame it and put it on the office wall."
